| In the late 1800s, the Climax Locomotive Works paved the way for geared locomotive development with innovative designs and improvements to existing technology. One such offering was the 28-Ton Two Truck Climax. With a horizontal boiler, this version of the Class B Climax offered more power and efficiency than its T-boiler predecessors. The successful 28-Tonner was produced until 1904 and continued in scattered service into the early 1950s. We’re pleased to add the On30 Two Truck Climax to our award-winning roster of geared locomotives. |

A Pleasure to Operate. A Pleasure to Watch., 1.26.2009 |

| If you are looking for a smooth running geared locomotive, you can't do better than the Bachmann Climax. While the Bachmann Shay is also great, it sometimes has problems with the electrical pickup which cause it to hesitate and stall briefly.
These problems have been completely solved in the Climax, which has robust pickup that allows it to glide effortlessly through complex switchwork. It also tracks well on rough trackwork.
And this loco it a beauty to watch in action with all of the exposed mechanical features of a Climax reproduced faithfully.
The level of fine detail is better than you would have seen on any brass locomotive built 25 years ago, and the manufacturer includes parts that allow you to tailor the build to your own railroad's needs.
Oh, and be sure to add sound! I was sceptic al at first, but sound makes a huge difference.
Great job, Bachmann. Now if you'd only make a Heisler you could have the last of my money... |
